Nichole Carelock

Nichole Carelock was a Visiting Assistant Professor jointly at the Center for Africana Studies and in the Anthropology Department. A native Houstonian, Carelock received her Doctoral degree from Rice University in 2012. Her pedagogical interests include the anthropology of self-formation and ethics; which include more specifically Aesthetic practices, social stigmatization, and religious ideation and practice in the Caribbean and Latin America. Her work examines the religious conversions in Haiti Post earthquake and "whitening" practices in the Dominican Republic.
