KEYNOTE ADDRESS "IMAGINING THE RACED SPACE OF FREEDOM: SYMPOSIUM IN HONOR OF THADIOUS M. DAVIS"

Edwidge Danticat is author of the best-selling Claire of the Sea Light and Brother, I’m Dying, and most recently of The Art of Death: Writing the Final Story, a critical memoir that explores the universality of loss in the wake of her mother’s death. “Writing has been the primary way I have tried to make sense of my losses,” Danticat notes in her introduction. “I have been writing about death for as long as I have been writing.” Danticat will reflect on how the themes of loss, death, and afterlife have influenced her own work as well as shaping broader African Diasporic notions of race and freedom. Join us for a chance to hear from one of the leading figures in American and Haitian letters.
