On March 6, 2025, The Penn Museum, in collaboration with the Center for Africana Studies, presented “Designing Blackness in Brazil,” an interdisciplinary and international workshop dedicated to reimagining museums as inclusive, dynamic spaces that authentically represent African and African Diasporic identities. This day-long event highlighted Brazil’s pivotal role in curatorial innovation, showcasing how Brazilian institutions and professionals are crafting exhibitions that challenge Eurocentric narratives and emphasize the complexities of Black identities.

This event was generously supported by the School of Arts and Sciences, the Department of Africana Studies, the Center for Latin American and Latinx Studies, and the Weitzman School of Design at the University of Pennsylvania.
