SaraEllen Strongman is a William Fontaine Fellow and a Ph.D. candidate in Africana Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. Her dissertation, “The Sisterhood: Black Women, Black Feminism, and the Women’s Liberation Movement” traces the development of black feminism during the 1970s and 80s. SaraEllen’s research has been supported by the Mainwaring Graduate Prize as well as multiple grants from the SSRC-Mellon Mays Graduate Student Initiatives. She was chosen for an honorable mention in the 2014 Ford Foundation Predoctoral Fellowship competition. SaraEllen is also the graduate assistant for Penn's Mellon May's Undergraduate Fellowship program and mentors young scholars as they conduct research and apply to graduate programs.
