Darius Bost

Darius Bost was a Penn Predoctoral Fellow for Excellence Through Diversity, jointly appointed in the departments of Africana Studies and English.  He completed his Ph.D. in the department of American studies at the University of Maryland-College Park.  His dissertation, 'The Evidence of Being: Urban Black Gay Men's Literature and Culture, 1978-1995' is an interdisciplinary study of black gay culture and politics at the height of the AIDS epidemic, focusing in particular on Washington, DC and New York City.  His research has been supported by the Martin Duberman Visiting Scholars Program at the New York Public Library, the Dean's Fellowship and the Graduate Summer Research Fellowship at the Graduate School of the University of Maryland, among other sources.  His work has been published in the Journal of West Indian Literature (2013), and is forthcoming in Geechee to Gumbo: Black Southern WomanLoving Culture and Politics (Redbone Press, 2013).Press, 2013)
