Alexandra Sánchez Rolón (she/her) is an Afro-Latinx scholar from Bayamón, Puerto Rico currently based in Philadelphia, PA. Her research encompasses the Spanish-speaking Caribbean, centering on Black/Afro-Latinx women’s agency. Specifically, Alexandra combines oral narratives, archival and ethnographic study, and an analysis of race, gender, and class to examine how Black/Afro-Latinx women resist forms of oppression via mundane, overlooked strategies.

Alexandra is a first-year student and William Fontaine Fellow in Africana Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies and Psychology from Duke University and formed part of the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship.
