Africa faces tremendous growth in its population, as it is expected to go from 400 million in 2010 to 1.26 billion in 2050. As a result, African leaders will face multiple and conflicting challenges to ensure the responsible development of vibrant urban and rural centers that are responsive to the demands for education, employment, transportation and social services – all while managing natural and economic resources to ensure sustainable, equitable human development.

Join Eisenhower Fellowships, Perry World House and the Center for Africana Studies at the University of Pennsylvania for a lively discussion with African leaders dedicated to finding solutions that address shared priorities around social welfare, urbanization, resiliency and economic growth.  The event is part of Eisenhower Fellowships’ 2016 Africa Program, in which25 ascendant leaders from eight African countries – Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania and Zimbabwe – embark on a journey throughout the United States to engage in a transformative exchange of knowledge and ideas with the leading minds in their fields.  

The discussion will be moderated by Dr. Tukufu Zuberi,the Lasry Family Professor of Race Relations and Professor of Sociology and Africana Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. The event is co-sponsored by The Center for Africana Studies and the Department of Africana Studies.
