The Department of Africana Studies invites you to our 8th annual Graduate Student Colloquium, "Roots/Routes to Freedom: Beyond Elsewhere-ism and the Academy.

The event will be held on Thursday, March 18th at 3:00-5:30 pm EST via Zoom.

This year's colloquium considers the many ways Black folks, throughout the hemisphere, individually and collectively practice joy and resistance. Featuring a conversation with Dominique Day, Dash Harris Machado, and Dr. Marta Moreno Vega, the panel will include reflections on how the speakers' work, both in relation to and beyond the academy, has invited them to imagine more livable, sustainable lives for themselves and their communities. How we envision freedom is impacted by place, time, and the relationships to the world(s) around us. It is to this end that this colloquium troubles the dichotomization of here and therebefore and afterbeginning and end.

This event is hosted by Penn’s Department of Africana Studies.
