Event
Race & Sports 2024
Ken Shropshire, William C. Rhoden
The Race and Sports event returned in 2024 thanks to a partnership between the Wharton Coalition for Equity and Opportunity, the Center for Africana Studies, and the Wharton Sports Analytics and Business Initiative (WSABI).
We are thrilled to say that the speaker for 2024’s event was William “Bill” Rhoden, former award-winning sports columnist for The New York Times and author of Forty Million Dollar Slaves: The Rise, Fall and Redemption of the Black Athlete, and Third and A Mile: The Trials and Triumphs of The Black Quarterback.
He currently serves as a writer-at-large for ESPN’s Andscape, where he acts as a columnist and oversees the Rhoden Fellowship, a program that identifies and trains aspiring African-American journalists from Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Rhoden was elected into the National Sports Media Association’s Hall of Fame in January 2021.
Reception followed. Food was provided.
*Please note that registration did not guarantee admission. Seating was available on a first-come, first-served basis.
